“Up & Down” RMX Competition WINNERsSSsSs!?!!!

January 19th, 2010 by DZ

First off, bless up to everyone who took the time to enter the comp & submitted a remix – we had a really hard time picking a bonafide winner let alone winnerS. This is definitely something that will be happening more often that’s for sure! We’ve been going through the entries not just listening to how the tracks are built/mixed, but how they will sound with a good mastering as well. In saying that, we have decided to put out an EP’s worth that will be coupled ‘longside an EP of various other Badman remixes, an(other!) LP of sorts. We were really happy with the variety in the rmxs, and felt these 6 deserved their own EP, in no particular order:

- Three Legga Larry rmx
- Brent Stil Life & Thunder St. Clair rmx
- Disco Nutter SMASH IT! rmx
- SubFreq rmx
- Tony Rocky Horror rmx
- Roland rmx

I will be getting in touch with everyone who entered via e-mail to sort all the shiz out asap, and from all of us at Badman Press, thank you for taking part and really hope you do so again for the next one!!!

Blog mentions

January 8th, 2010 by M6

I always try to keep an eye out for mentions of Badman Press artists in other blogs … looks like this week I stumbled across Squeegie blog’s favorites of 2009. Thx to “Brookah” for listing “Crookers – Business Man (feat. Wiley & Thomas Jules) (DZ Remix)” at number 5 on his “Top 10 remixes of the year” and to “Orpheus” listing it at #4. Out to “Rodan” w/ DZ as an honorable mention for favorite artist of 2009. Check out their blog post here: http://squeegiesounds.com/2009/12/our-favourites-of-2009/

Ok, next we head over to “BWOMP BEATS!” blog where they interview artist “Akira Kiteshi” and offer up his remix of DZ’s Just Rollin’ for download. Check out the BWOMP BEATS post!

That about wraps up my findings – but in the mean time don’t forget to check out the details on the latest Badman Press release.

Have a good! safe! weekend!

DZ presents: The Proliferation Sequence LP parts 1 & 2!!

December 31st, 2009 by DZ

The North American bass dub slinger DZ is no stranger to dance floors worldwide with his tunes being played by the likes of Rusko, Diplo, Herve, the Crookers, MRK1, Hank Shocklee and Starkey, and with all the blog releases and freebies as of late probably hundreds of up and coming dj’s around the globe. Definitely among the most influential and widely recognized dubstep artists in North America, DZ has made his name with an almost robot-like consistency of quality productions and releases on a variety of labels internationally, as well as higher profile remixes for the likes of Jokers of the Scene, The Crookers, Wu-tang Clan, Major Lazer and Gucci Mane. With the release of his first full length LP “The Proliferation Sequence”, a massive 26 tune offering split into two parts, DZ is about to strengthen the claim that he just may be the most prolific dubstep artist in North America yet.

PART I: AVAILABLE NOW EXCLUSIVELY ON BEATPORT!

PART II: AVAILABLE NOW EXCLUSIVELY ON BEATPORT!

“The Proliferation Sequence” has been a long time in the making – some of the tracks featured have been exclusive dubs for almost 2 years – what better time than now for these gems to have their day! “Part One” features underground anthems in “Juxta”, “Amped”, “Machinery” with it’s now classic DZ metallic filter swipes up & front, “The Jump Off” and the wall shaking “Starchaser” that are offered up alongside the deeper, minimalistic sounds of “Bounty Love” and “No Gunman”, the slight homage to the classic Sega game “Outrun”, Lil’ Jon lends a wail or two on the stripped down electro wobbler “Shake That” and the air-raid themed call to the dance floor in the militant “Head Cold”.

“Part Two” is where we hear DZ’s sound mature as he takes us on a ride over 13 tracks of bass heavy delicacies, expanding on his abilities of letting sounds mesh & breathe in new ways with each song. The LP begins with the beautiful nu jazz stylings of “Serenity Now” with its lush brass riffs and sharp rolling drums, then keeps the chill vibes going with the vocal tinged “I Love You”, then comes what can only be ‘like falling into a trance & wanting to kill the Malaysian prime-minister’ in “Mugatu” with its droning downward lfo work. “2 Da 4” is a Benga inspired roller with Dizzee Rascal number chants used wittily throughout, “Synthay”, “Chalet” & “Fuster Cluck” utilize unique sounds & structures to push the vibes along nicely, and on the collaboration piece “Content” with newcomer Posted the duo delves into heavy, heavy sub territory laced with melancholic piano licks and distorted guitar wails. Tracks like “Stupid Crunk”, “Tighten Up”, “Quake 89” and “Hearing Things” are all driving, darker pieces that we have come to expect from DZ over the last year, and they make for a great increase of pace as the LP gears towards the finish line.

Much, much love to everyone I have met along the way who get what I am trying to do, to build, and to represent – none of this would be possible without your help. Thank you. -> Dizzl

XVI closing its doors.

December 15th, 2009 by RedEyz

XVI Logoa staple of the Ottawa rave scene and nightlife community is closing its doors on January 1st of the upcoming year. a site known and loved by many for well over a decade, brought together by hard work and a love of electronic music in a ‘big city with a small town mentality’ it will be sorely missed. many a Badman met, communicated and gathered ideas and information because of XVI and its longstanding relationship between Ottawa area ravers and club-goers. the banter, the friendships, the drama, and the music shared by so many not only from Ottawa, but all over Canada and even other places around the World will never be replaced.

thank you, Graham J, from all the Badman Press family for keeping such a wonderful place to express ones-self, share music, get the latest event listings or just blow off some steam around for such a long time.

for some of the reasoning behind the decision you can check Graham J’s post here.

BDMFREE-001:Dubsworth ft. Bakir “Not The One” (WAV & MP3)

November 30th, 2009 by DZ

Dubsworth Beach Bass

I’ve been sending beats to San Francisco producers ever since I started building dubstep, and was pleasantly surprised when this kid Dubsworth started sending me these awesome tunes that were quite different than I was used to hearing – dub-like riddims with live guitar licks and trumpet wails scattered about – this was my introduction to “The Spit Brothers”. Since then I have become quite close with both Danny Dubsworth and Ric Bakir, 2 seriously talented guys and great musicians who have come very far since those first few dubs, and they have definitely taught yours truly a great deal of musical know how.

Bakir Beach Trumpet

With releases currently out on Full Melt, Bassism, Vermin Street & DubsAlive (their label, focusing more on the dubwise sounds which I have a release on as well) as well as forthcoming tunes on Brapdem!, Blipswitch, Badman Digital & DubsAlive and a live tour in the works, these two are well on their way to getting the attention that they rightly deserve. Their last show here in SF @ 1015 was nothing short of phenomenal, still mentioned by many as one of the sickest shows this year.

I was hoping that I would have had the chance to interview Dubsworth properly for the FREE release by now, but he’s a hardworkin’ man that’s tough to corral so we’ll have to wait a bit to get his knowledge droppings pon da board. So on mi go, seen!

2 years ago Dubsy sent the early version of “Not The One” and I fell in love with the sounds and couldn’t believe he was playing guitar and Bakir was on trumpet in the tune. I wanted to put it out on Badman Press wax so bad, but shit happens and getting it out there couldn’t wait. I hope you like the tracks as much as I do, and check these guys out, for real!
