This month at Exposure we're celebrating the birthdays of Enver 'RedEyz' Pletilic and our very own Matt Thomas!

As they both play and have a deep love for dramatically different styles of music you will notice that there is quite a diverse range of selectors for the evening with a little bit of everything you can hear around the Nation's Capital and here at Lotus Lounge represented throughout each month of the calendar year.

w/DJs:

REDEYZ [Badman Press, Capital Bass Culture, Bass Tourist, Rottun Recordings]
One of our birthday boys, RedEyz, who is renown for his hard and dirty DJ sets is ready to obliterate the dance floor with an eclectic mix of Bassline house and Dubstep that's sure to make a hater believe in the power of BASS. RedEyz teamed up with DZ in the spring of 2008 and their first track, “Call it Dirty”, was picked up by Bass Tourist Records and was released b/w DZ’s “Geeks” (BTR004). The release has been battered by the likes of Sinden, Herve, Kanji Kinetic, Starkey, Bombaman, Joe Rogers, J.O.T.S. & countless others. He currently holds a residency at Ottawa’s only dubstep monthly “Steppin’ Up!” alongside Bowzer, Tsunami & Pandemic and has numerous releases in the works for 2010.

BASS MACHINES [Bass Machines Entertainment]
Ottawa's favourite Electro House duo The Bass Machines are back again to deliver a high energy set that is sure to get your ass moving like only they can. Their unique blend of techno, electro, house, fidget, and breaks makes the Bass Machines a very exciting act to experience. Their sets have shown that they are not afraid to break the boundaries and do what has never been done before.

THREESIXTY [of The Fix/Counterweight, Badman Press, Shift Recordings, Function Records]
Coming off of the success of the recently released 'Blair Road Project', Threesixty, one of Ottawa's longest standing and hardest working drum & bass DJs/producers has sounds that are sometimes deep and sometimes punishing and can easily jump on different flexes with 'nuff weight for the floor. With DJ appearances at all of Ottawa's important club nights past & present, Threesixty will bring the bass like no other can.

PANDEMIC [Capital Bass Culture]
With the success of Steppin' up, Ottawa's only Dubstep monthly and the mastermind behind Capital Bass Culture comes Pandemic. His diverse knowledge of music and love of a heavy bassline promises to shake you to your core. Steppin' up happens every 3rd Saturday of the month at Brixton's Pub in the Sparks Street Pedestrian Mall. If you like what you hear, you can always catch more Dubstep with him and the rest of the CBC gang there!

HASHEK vs.TTL vs. MATT THOMAS [HiAmp, Alweezgrooven, Sounds CRMNL, Exposure Fridays]
To round out the night we have a special treat that's surely not going to disappoint!

We proudly bring you one of the pioneers of the techno sound in the Nation's Capital, Hashek, who will be playing a mind altering 2 hour long 3-way tag-team set with our other birthday boy and founder of Exposure, Matt Thomas and everyone's favourite CRMNL the one and only TTL.

HASHEK has been playing at local and international events for well over a decade. With years of experience behind the decks, listeners can expect only the best choices of music. From house & electro, techno & tribal, to psy trance and ambient chill, you can expect to hear dark, energetic and potent sounds with a techno-esque influence. Combined with technical mixing skills that only come from years of practice and the never-ending love for good electronic dance music, Hashek is never one to disappoint.

TTL is known for bringing the energy! Able to take his listeners on an auditory journey, exploring sounds with his own blend of minimal techno, house, breaks, and dance floor destroying bass lines he has a love for the music that words just can’t do justice. A 3 year resident with Ottawa’s longest running Hard Dance monthly event, Deep Frequency Fusion, TTL has also performed in major cities across Canada such as Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal.

MATT THOMAS' lifetime passion for music and a wide spectrum of musical knowledge is apparent every time he gets behind the decks. With his unique blend of dark, twisted, and funked up minimal and tech, Matt has proven time and time again that he can rock the party and fill a dancefloor with ease. Since he started playing in 2007, Matt has secured residencies at events such as Pier House and Park Vibes, and has now become the main driving force behind 'Exposure Fridays'.

w/Graff Artist: DOLLFACE (Formerly known as DOLL)

Ottawa’s local Dollface started doodling about 5 years ago, which then turned to canvas, to putting her art on clothing, car hoods, an ambulance and various walls around Ottawa and Hull. Dollface specializes as a solo Graff artist though has collaborated with many other amazing Graff artists. Her paintings have been displayed at over 50 shows, such as Art In The Park, Beats & Pieces, Red Mercury, the DMC’s, as well as solo shows at Babylon, Shanghai Noon, and Lotus Lounge. Pieces of her work have been carried in stores such as 456 Fashions, The Layup, Heavens to Betsy and in magazines. Having never taken any training, she has shown how natural of a talent she has and how her surroundings have inspired, whether it be music, the city, or the colours around her. This month, coming from Montreal to kick of the new decade are the two masterminds behind the Forward Music Montreal. These guys have been bringing in some serious names into Montreal (the likes of DZ, Plastician, Liondub and many more) and have been pushing the dubstep scene "Forward" as far back as I can remember there being dubstep in Montreal. Steppin Up is proud to present......

WALLY (Montreal, QC)
Forward Music Montreal, Monkey Dub Recording

Wally is a Dubstep DJ/Producer from Montreal, Canada. Touching decks for the first time in 2003 to entertain drunken college kids with indie and punk rock, he then moved on to the rave scene spinning mind-bending psytrance in 2005 and organizing various all-nighter events. The full on baptism came after an all-night Dubstep party in a Montreal record store featuring none other than Benga, Wally was immediately ordained into the world of Dubstep.

Since then, he has taken part in organizing a weekly event that serves as the backbone for Montreal's Dubstep scene. In less than two years Forward Thursday's has had the chance to welcome a wide-range of artists such as Loetech, Sixtoo, DZ, Datsik, Spor and Plastician, to name a few. Wally has also taken part in events organized by Bassdrive, Bassmob, Rough n' rugged and Komodo dubs.

In 2009, Wally moved into dubstep production. The goal of his craft is simple, to bring fresh new sounds that wreck the dancefloor without alienating the uninitiated. He takes great pride in showing that dubstep is neither laid back chilling music nor repetitive wobbles on syncopated rhythms. Dubstep is better off undefined and unclassified.

2010 promises to be an important year for Montreal's Dubstep scene as it witnesses the birth of Monkey Dub Recording, which will host Wally's first full scale releases. Another project to look out for is Wally's, yet to be named, Dubstep ensemble, with a live drummer, live synth and live singer. In the meantime, be sure to check out his (almost) monthly gigs at Bassdrive Wednesdays and weekly appearances at Forward Music Montreal Thursdays.
